What is a SEP?
Hi, you may be wondering, what is a SEP? The Special Enrollment Period (SEP) is a when people who are eligible for Medicare can enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan or a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan, or switch between these plans. SEPs are available to people who have certain life changes like moving to a new area, losing employer coverage, or becoming eligible for Medicare due to a disability.
An SEP is usually a 60-day period that begins when the individual has a qualifying change. During this time, the individual can enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan or a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan, or switch between these plans. Importantly, people can enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan or a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan during the SEP, which is usually allowed once for most SEPs. People who are eligible for the SEP, or are not sure if they are eligible, should contact us to learn more about their enrollment options and to enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan or a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan.
