Start with your needs
Compare the full cost, not just the premium
A Marketplace plan's monthly premium is only one part of what you may pay. Before choosing, compare the deductible, copays or coinsurance, out-of-pocket maximum, prescription coverage, and whether your doctors and hospitals are in the plan's network. The right fit depends on your household, expected care, and budget.
- Check providers: confirm each doctor, facility, and pharmacy directly with the plan.
- Check prescriptions: review the plan formulary, drug tier, and pharmacy rules.
- Estimate total costs: compare premiums plus likely care costs and the plan's out-of-pocket maximum.
Marketplace plans are grouped into Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum categories. These categories describe how costs are shared on average; they do not measure the quality of care. If you qualify for cost-sharing reductions, those extra savings are available only with a Silver Marketplace plan.

See whether you qualify for Marketplace savings
Depending on the information in your Marketplace application, you may qualify for a premium tax credit that lowers your monthly premium. Some applicants may also qualify for cost-sharing reductions that lower deductibles, copayments, or coinsurance on eligible Silver plans. Eligibility and savings depend on your application and plan choices; use the official Marketplace application for your current result.

Enrollment timing
When can you enroll in Marketplace coverage?
Marketplace enrollment is generally available during the annual Open Enrollment Period. Outside that period, certain life changes may make you eligible for a Special Enrollment Period. Rules, deadlines, and documentation depend on the event, so confirm your situation and dates with HealthCare.gov or your state Marketplace.
