Health Plans

Why do I need health insurance plan?

You want to make sure that you are ready when the unexpected happens. Whether this is an accident or an illness, you may not be prepared to deal with the associated expenses. Having health insurance can decrease the burden. You have an Marketplace Plan or a Short Term Medical Plan. These plans do not necessarily come with dental, vision, or hearing coverage. You will be able to obtain these plans under separate coverage.

ACA/OBAMACARE: Marketplace Plans

The Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, was enacted in 2010 to make health insurance more accessible and affordable. If you don’t have coverage through an employer, you can shop for health insurance through the Marketplace.

Many people qualify for premium tax credits (subsidies) — money the government applies directly to your plan to help lower your monthly cost. Eligibility is based on income, household size, and where you live.

The law also allowed many states to expand Medicaid coverage to adults with lower incomes (generally up to 138% of the Federal Poverty Level), making it easier for millions of people to qualify for low-cost or no-cost coverage.

Important update: Congress recently allowed the temporary “extra” subsidy enhancements to expire.

Subsidies still exist — but some households may now see higher premiums than in recent years. We’ll help you check your eligibility and find the most affordable plan available.

Even without the enhanced subsidies, many people still qualify for plans with low or even $0 monthly premiums depending on their income. And if your income is higher, there are both Marketplace and private plan options to compare.

There is no longer a federal penalty for not having health insurance. However, being uninsured during a medical emergency can lead to significant financial hardship. Having coverage helps protect your health and your finances.

Don’t try to figure it out alone.

We review your options, check available subsidies, and help you choose coverage that fits your needs and budget.

SHORT-TERM MEDICAL

Short-Term Medical plans offer off-exchange/non-exchange medical coverage. Some do have networks or certain providers who accept the plans. Other plans do not have networks. Depending on your situation, this may be the path for you. These are not considered major medical or ACA level plans.
